Abc tunes from the woodenflute mailing list
The woodenflute mailing list exists to discuss all aspects of the wooden flute - music, history, technique, players, making, workshops, festivals, new CDs, and gossip.
In the course of discussions, tunes are often posted to the list in abc format. These tunes are posted to illustrate a point, to answer a query, or just as one wooden flute player sharing a good tune with the members of the list.
I have made an honest attempt to credit all individual abc notations to the correct transcriber, and to observe any copyright issues relating to tunes in the file : I will happily correct any errors if you email me. Updates to the file will be posted approximately every three months, depending on the number of tunes contributed to the list and my getting a round two wit.
I have manually tidied abc notation where necessary to generate a readable
abc file, but without (intentionally) altering the actual transcription except
in correcting certain glaringly obvious errors or ommissions. The abc has been
tested and found OK against my copies of abcm2ps
and Abc2Win, your mileage

Multiple versions of the same tune may sometimes be found in the woodenflute
archives - this is a feature not a bug, although exactly the
same transcription should not appear twice. There is not one correct version
of a tune, and different transcriptions show either regional variations, players'
styles, or just the effect of the aural tradition.

The tune files
The original file woodenflute.abc comprises the abc tunes posted to the list between October 1998 and April 2000. There are 221 tunes in the file, posted to the list by 29 people. Click here to download the file woodenflute.abc (86Kb).
The first update file comprises the 133 tunes posted between May 2000 and April 2001. Click here to download the file wf_update1.abc (53Kb).

The latest update file wf_update3.abc comprises the 132 tunes posted between May 2002 and April 2003, and can be had by clicking here (57Kb).
